If you’re accustomed to body wash, it can seem like a step back in time to lather up with a bar and washcloth. Compared to eye-popping body wash bottles a bar soap seems a bit, well, bland. But I’d argue a cake of soap is anything but and better for you! Keep reading for 5 signs you should make the switch!
1: Bar soap travels well – there’s no need to consider TSA requirements for ounces or get travel bottles. There’s no risk of it spilling in your suitcase on a road trip. A bar easily pops into your toiletries worry free. If it collects a few pieces of dirt on the journey, those just wash off. You can even find shampoo bars and skip the liquids all together. Bar soap is a choice travel companion.
2: It can live on that tiny shelf – there’s that little shelf with low clearance in your bath/shower and that’s right where you bar can live. Save some space for a slightly more minimalist look by skipping the bulky body wash.
3: Bar soap has less ingredients, and you can usually pronounce them – Bar soap comes in as many recipes as there are Dollar Generals. If you love products with simple ingredients, it’s easier to find that in a bar.
4: Bar soap makes it easier to manage allergies – If there are certain ingredients that trigger reactions for you, you can work with a soap maker to have a custom bar made for your sensitive skin. It’s much easier to custom make a bar sans fragrance, coconut oil, milks, surfactants, herbs or any additive you need to avoid, than it is to find a half decent body wash that fits the bill.
5: It can be less drying – This does depend on the recipe, but we’ve found bar soap tends to be less drying. That post-shower puckered skin feeling doesn’t seem to happen. Finding bath products that don’t strip the moisture from your skin mean you spend less time applying lotions..and everyone needs more time.
BUT WHY SHOULD YOU NOT BUY BAR SOAP?!
Soap makers can be incredibly artistic, crafting absolute works of art - realistic looking foods ( that we don’t recommend eating), animals, dolls..the list is honestly endless. They put so much time and thought into their work, only to hear, “It’s too beautiful to use!” The crafter would love to know you used it, enjoyed it, and came back for more. But if you’re intimidated by the thought of using a bar that looks just like a cupcake, we understand.
